Johnson City Partners
Officers: President: Julie Deemie
Treasurer: Nick Tarcha
Corres. Sec: Jim Furman
Recording Sec: Marcia Ward
Meeting Date: November 7, 2012
Location: Johnson City Village Hall
Attendees: Julie Deemie, Marcia Ward, Barb Thompson, Dottie Pobocek, Jim Furman, Orin James, Nick Tarcha, Art Coddington
Meeting called to order at 7:00PM
Minutes: The meeting minutes from Sept 12 , 2012 and Oct 10, 2012 were read by Marcia. Motion by Dottie to approve both and seconded by Jim. Approved unanimously, with minor corrections.
Reports: Nick reported the balance in the savings account and the checking account. Julie said she needs to review the accounts with Nick to determine if checks from Carousel Day were deposited in the correct account. Julie reported that we have another insurance payment due before the end of the year and we need to decide how the money in the Savings account will be used for CFJ Park.
Bylaws update: Barb read some suggestions from the book, Robert's Rules for Idiots. Bylaws Article X and Article XI were distributed to review. We reviewed Article IV, regarding meetings. Julie suggested whoever is interested can stay after the meeting to further discuss the bylaws.
Fundraising ideas: Dottie is investigating improvisation groups for availability and fees charged. Bruce had indicated he would help with finding a location, if we find a group. Dottie also suggested a Square Dance-she will check on a band and how much they would charge. Other suggestions were Doug's Fish Fry or the Outback Steakhouse. Julie suggested tours of Historic Buildings in JC and those being renovated through the NYS Main Street grant program. The tour could be organized with the cooperation of PAST. It would probably be planned for 2014 when the work is completed on the projects.
Julie expressed her wish that more JC Partners members could have attended the event sponsored by the Broome County Arts Council when Julie received the Heart of the Arts Award. There were many influential people in attendance, so it would have been good to have a better showing from our group. As a result of Julie's award, information about JC Partners and our events will remain on the Arts Council website for the next year.
Membership Promotion: Orin designed a 3x5 card with a photo and information to promote membership in JC Partners. This could be distributed by members and downtown businesses. Dottie suggested a bookmark size, in addition. Orin asked members to write him with suggestions before Thanksgiving.
Orin will also try to get more information about our meetings and events in the newspaper through press releases and Good News! Articles.
JCRP: Julie reported on the progress of each of the projects in the program. The temporary sign is up in the Veterans Park at Isabelle Place, announcing the NYS Main Street Grant district. We are working on the design of a permanent sign for Historic Downtown Johnson City.
The Johnson City Holiday Parade is Thursday, Nov. 29th this year. Julie knows someone with an antique truck who will drive it in the parade if we are interested. Six of us committed to participating in the parade. Dottie can also drive her car and decorate it with lights. Orin will have some signs made.
Julie is working on having summer music programs to bring more people to the downtown JC business area. Dottie suggested that the musicians union may know some "up and coming" groups who will be willing to play. Julie may request more funding from the Arts Council or we may ask local businesses to sponsor a musical group.
Equinox Broadcasting is sponsoring a Sock Hop in the Village Hall parking lot on the third Thursday of the month, May through September of 2013.
Carousel Day will be July 27th, 2013, so as not to conflict with St John's Festival which is scheduled for July 20, 2013.
Nick asked for an auditing committee to consist of Bruce King and one other person to complete an audit of the books in January, 2013.
The next meeting of the JC Partners is December 12, 2012. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
