Meeting called to order at 7:11PM

Donna Converse introduced herself to us and introductions were made around the table.  Julie welcomed Donna to our meeting and invited her to become a member.

Minutes: Minutes of the Jan 9, 2013 meeting were read by Marcia.  Jim made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Corinna. Unanimous vote to accept.

Julie read the Feb 13, 2013 minutes. Two corrections were made. Corinna made a motion to accept the minutes with the corrections, seconded by Barb. Unanimous vote to accept.

 

Reports: There is no Treasurer at this time, so Julie provided a report.  There is $172.64 in the checking account. Julie has sponsorship checks from Visions, Bates Troy and UHS to deposit.

We discussed the Treasurer's position which remains open.  Tom Johnson agreed to help with the position if we are unable to find anyone else.  Carol Laskowsi will talk with Julie about the office.  We are holding over a decision about the office until the next meeting.

 

Old Business:

Carousel Day: We had requested $1800 from the Chenango County Arts Council to help fund Carousel Day this year.  We were awarded $500.  Julie asked the reason for the lower funding and was told they are being tighter with the funds and are trying to provide seed money for new "arts driven" events.  Julie is expanding our search for sponsors to make up the difference.  We may have to cut back on the number of tents and tables.  We may have to consider asking the village for some funding assistance, depending on the response from businesses.

We need to start selling ads in the Carousel Day Program.  Julie asked us to approach new businesses and distributed forms to sign up for the ads.

 

Bylaws Revisions: Barb lead a discussion about the revised bylaws.   Carol and Donna each offered suggestions for re-wording the Mission Statement.  Discussion followed regarding the suggestions.  Barb read through the bylaws, explaining the changes made by the committee.  Since there was still some discussion by members about the changes, we decided to hold the vote on the revised bylaws until the next meeting.

 

JCRP: Marcia and Julie met with Mike Haas, Landscape Architect to discuss the streetscape and historic signs for Main Street. There is some funding available through the Town of Union for streetscape design.

Bill Giblin is close to signing a contract, 237 Main and 257 Main are also close to signing contracts with the Village to start work. 247 Main St has completed the first phase of their project. We will be meeting with the owner to discuss and approve the second phase.


Music Event: Corinna reported on progress of the Third Thursday Cruze Inz  planned for May-Sept. In the Village parking lots behind Village Hall.  Letters were sent to 36 businesses in the downtown area to request funding assistance for the bands.  UHS is the only sponsor so far. Corinna is working with car clubs to have members bring their cars for display. She has bands booked  for most of the nights.  Janet Ottman will do walking tours of downtown JC,  June- September.  We will be using Good Times, Posters and signs to promote the events.  We do not have the funding to pay for radio ads.

 

Conflict of Interest form: Greg Deemie explained the Conflict of Interest statement that officers need to sign.  The intent is to avoid any activity or contact that would benefit an individual in the organization.  Also to avoid using information that might benefit an individual or another organization.

 

Fundraising: Corinna suggested we plan for the garage sale on April 27th.  Carol contacted Pizza Hut and McDonalds about fundraisers for the Partners.  Pizza Hut donates 20% of sales on a specific date from 5-7PM. We need to provide the flyers.  McDonalds donates 15% of sales and they will supply the flyers.  We are looking at May 15 or May 17 as possible dates.

 

New Business:

Corinna reported that other groups in JC want the Partners involved in their events. There is a Neighborhood Watch kick-off on June 15th in Floral Park from 1-4 PM. Carol said she might be able to organize a table, if she can get others to help. We could hand out our JC Partner cards and Carousel Day promotional material.

There is also a clean-up day on April 13 from Noon - 3PM. A co-ed Fraternity from BU is meeting at Floral Park to help clean up the southside.

The next Johnson City Partners meeting is April 10, 2013 at 7PM.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM.
