Membership: Barb phoned 3 people who signed up at Carousel Day to encourage them to attend meetings and/or volunteer for our events. She called volunteers for the August Cruze-In, then called them back when it was cancelled due to weather conditions.
Cruze-In, Sept 18: Corinna will confirm with Rich Wilson and also with the Goodwill Theatre regarding a tour at 6:30. In the Save-a-Lot parking lot JCNP-Team Broome will be selling root beer floats and ice cream sundaes to raise money in memory of Officer David Smith. The money raised will help send people on the Unity Ride next May.
.New York Main Street Grant: The Historic Johnson City/Health and Cultural District sign was installed in Veterans Park. The 8 large planters and 5 medium planters were also installed at various locations within the target district. All of the Grant participants have submitted their paperwork to Julie. Rich from Thoma Development is coming to go through the files. Julie will submit the final reports within the next 3 weeks.
Julie reported that on August 19, 2014, Johnson City Partners received notification of 501c3 status. The organization is a public charity and official not-for-profit, with tax-exempt status, retroactive to May 15, 2010. Julie read us some of what she wrote with the application. We need to file forms with the NYS Attorney General’s office and the NYS Income Tax.
Julie reminded us that Barb is the official parliamentarian and it is her role to keep us on track so that we finish our meetings before 9PM.
Carousel Day follow-up: Julie sent thank you notes to many of the volunteers who worked at Carousel Day and thanked all of those present at the meeting for their assistance.
JC PTO was selling spiritwear at Carousel Day and they sent us a check for $25.
The Elks were transporting food from their own building to the Park this year. They were parking in the street near the pavilion and carrying the food to the concession stand. The parking is dangerous there and it was disruptive to those watching the entertainment.
The Carousel Modellers expressed interest in returning, possibly in two years. We discussed the pros and cons of this year’s Carousel Day and talked about options for the future to attract different vendors and businesses.
We planned a downtown clean-up day for Sat. Oct 4th from 9-Noon.
The next Johnson City Partners meeting is October 15, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Village Hall.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 PM.
