April 12, 2017 Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 7:08pm by Donna

Welcomed guests: Virginia and Matt Evans (Virginia is an MSW Grad Student developing an asset based community development project interning at Johnson City High School).

 

Virginia told JCP that parents of high school students expressed a need for more after school and summer activities.  A project they are exploring is a Mural Arts Project – integrating generational artists, Students facilitated by older people. Virginia and Matt are at our meeting for ideas.  Corinna commented on the Goodwill Theatre and murals outside the Goodwill Theatre and they could contact Naima Kradjian.  Rob commented on the Floral Park Mural Festival in September. Rob suggested mini mural projects to be held during the summer, leading up to the Floral Park Festival.  Corinna told them about the Bridge Community Center and Mark Bowers.  Also, St. James Church about doing student murals and that Sarah Jane Johnson Dream Center have in the past collaborated with St. James doing murals. Virginia commented that they would contact the Dept. of Public Arts and Rob invited them to go to a Mural Festival Meeting. 

 

Regular JCP meeting business ensued. The minutes from the February 15 were reviewed.  Motion to approve by Corinna, seconded by Julie, unanimous approved with few corrections.

March Meeting Minutes would be emailed to members and printed by Marcia for the next meeting in May.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

 

                                    Checking account:          $2601.76

                                    Park savings account:    $3454.28

                                    Revitalization savings:    $109.77

 

Julie presented 501C3 filing information that was submitted May 15.  Attorney General CHAR500 forms are due April 15.  Julie Provided Donna and Marica copies to sign.

 

Carousel Day: Julie and Corinna have been meeting with the Johnson City Rotary.  Julie and Corinna have arranged for entertainment.  Rotary is checking into insurance needs.  Rotary has groups formed to arrange each part of the event.

Carol/Corinna will email/contact Rocky to meet with him to pick-up Carousel Day supplies, Carol has stored. 

 

Cruze In 2017:  Donna signed Rich Wilson’s contract.  Corinna has hired all the bands.  Donna will ask Greg Deemie to do posters.  $850 has been collected so far from Sponsors.

May Cruze – Julie street, Corinna – set-up.  Rob will also get volunteers. 

 

(Guests left the meeting at the mural discussion at 8:00).

 

Rob will set-up Google Docs and send to Carol for volunteer sign ups. 

Corinna will talk to Barb about volunteers and updates.

 

Sign for Cruze In will be set up by Wegmans on April 29.  Julie has design for stand.  Marcia and Julie will get lumber at Home Depot and sign from Bulls Eye (with truck).  Mounting of the sign will be done on site. Marica and Julie will meet at Home Depot at 9am.  Corinna and anyone else helping will meet at Wegmans at 10am.  

Actions:  Marcia will pick-up pizzas for Cruze volunteers.

Corinna will check with American Legion about chicken barbeque.

 

T-shirt Promotion:  Rob presented and told us the cost of shirts will be $20 plus shipping. Carol will send JCP logo to Rob.  Gray, White, and Maroon shirts. All sizes including youth. 

Upstate Merchandise Company can do on site printing on Carousel Day.  T-shirt sales will also take place July 29 at Carousel Day at CFJ Park for Johnson City 125th Anniversary.  Rob will set up T-shirt campaign – Face Book Ads.  We will start t-shirt campaign after we get some for JCP members to wear.

 

Old Business

Julie – Concrete bill given to Marcia for payment. 

Rust on CFJ Park benches – Julie received 3 new benches from the bench company and we do not have to send back the rusted benches.  They will be used elsewhere in Johnson City.  Julie is securing blue and white lettered plaques costing $10 each with bench benefactors name for the benches.

Bumblebee children’s ride plaque “donation in memory of” will be placed by JCP.

 

CFJ Park Beautification Project: Estimate for trees, Julie will meet with W&W Landscaping at the park.  Hillside Garden’s estimates will be sought also.  For 3 maple, 2, redbud, and 1 pin oak.

Actions:

Need watering volunteers.  Donna will save water jugs.

Carol will seek press release for park improvements.

 

Next Meeting May 10 at 7pm.
